MORE ABOUT THE CD
"WATER WOMAN: ORGANIC FLOW

Progressive Imakhu Mwt Shekemet shares her passion for life, her
vision, and at times her humor through her music. Her CD, "Water
Woman: Organic Flow," celebrates the uniquely organic process through
which the tracks were created.  She also calls it "an homage to her
Ancestral/cultural influences, and a prayer."

Imakhu Mwt Shekemet describes her music as Nu Afrakan Eclectic. She
has also found enterprising use of her percussion collection to
compensate for her small hands and body frame (i.e., substituting a
kdang for a djun djun and timpani). Imakhu also implements
non-traditional playing of her instruments for the sake of creative
musicality. As a composer, Imakhu creates pleasing melodics & hooks
while also employing atypical meters & rhythmic patterns, and
occasional dissonance as sound healing techniques. As a vocalist,
Imakhu's rich voice and wide range stems from her early gospel roots
and formal vocal training.

All vocals, guitar & drums/percussion are performed by Imakhu Mwt
Shekemet; additional drums/percussion by Rahman Amir on "Ancestral
Waters," "Ashe! (Ase!);" Violin by Carlos Santiago.

It's a New Day
Water Woman
Imakhu!
It's a new day...even after 30 years of professional artistry.
Water is an element of peace and healing.

Internationally known as WATER WOMAN, veteran performer, lecturer, Sacred Artist, and
Nu Afrakan Renaissance woman Imakhu Mwt Shekemet builds healing bridges through her
cultural roots in her
" Water Woman Peace & Power Tour."

Sharing all aspects of the Black Experience (African, Afro-Carribean, African American, Native
American), Imakhu invites audience members on stage to become part of her unique brand of
theatre, creating community while celebrating old and Nu Afrakan traditions.

As a solo artist Imakhu has entertained and educated many throughout the country with her
inimitable high energy performances, ready wit and rapid rapport. It has also been her trademark
to leave the stage to mingle with her audience. Her music and stories are heard on radio
stations throughout the world. Whether through shows, workshops, artist-in residencies, or
lectures,  Imakhu has touched thousands of lives over her thirty year career

Imakhu is a former member of "Keepers of the Culture," Philadelphia, PA's African American
storytelling guild committed to the preservation and continuance of African based culture.
Through the years Imakhu Mwt Shekemet has led her master workshop,"The Art of Storytelling"
for teens and adults.

As a drummer, Imakhu has composed and arranged numerous songs. She instructed all of the
male drummers in her ensemble The Zawadi Collective. Known as, "The Little Lady Who Can
Play That Drum," Imakhu leads workshops and retreats on the healing power of the drum. Using
her wide variety of international drums and percussion instruments and styles including African
and Hip Hop, Imakhu has conducted Music Therapy and Movement classes for ages 3 to 103.

Formerly known as Eyele Yetunde, Imakhu Mwt Shekemet's new name reflects her status as
Queen Mother/Elder High Priestess, and interfaith ordained minister of the Afrakan Kemetic
shrine Kera Sert Mwt Ast (Sacred Shrine of Mother Auset or Isis, which she co-founded and
leads) in Trenton, NJ.

Imakhu Mwt Shekemet is also a Water Priestess, initiated into the Shona tradition. In the African
Kemetic language "Imakhu" means "Reverend" and "Water Spirit of The Light."
"Mwt"(pronounced "Moot") means "Mother" and "Goddess of the Waters." "Shekemet" means
"Woman of Power." As a Water Priestess, Imakhu is commissioned to spread the message of
peace, self-empowerment, and understanding through education in the arts.

First and foremost, Imakhu is a mother who successfully raised two daughters. She applies her
passion for family unity to all aspects of her art. Her Internet radio station, AKERU! Nu Afrakan
Network, is "dedicated to the healing of the Black Family at home and at large." Her lectures aim
at the healing of human suffering.

Imakhu  recently relocated to the city of Trenton in her home state of New Jersey.
